Commercial soap manufacturers remove glycerin from their soaps (a natural by-product from soap making) as there is a more profitable market for it in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries.
Once it is removed, you are left with a detergent that can strip your skin of the necessary oils that it need to stay soft and hydrated. They often add back moisturizers that contain harsh chemicals and preservatives.
Look at the list of ingredients in your commercially manufactured bar soap. Do you recognize most of them?
My soaps use natural base oils.
Depending on the particular soap, I use a mixture of olive, coconut, palm, castor, rice bran, jojoba, palm kernel oils and shea butter and essential oils whenever possible.
A very few of my soap scents use some fragrance oils whenever an essential oil is not available.
